Lipreading Practice

Advert

Deaf Awareness Week 6-12th May 2019

1 in 6 of us has a hearing loss. I’m one of them.

Hearing loss affects our ability to talk to each other both face to face and
especially over the phone. Hearing loss doesn’t just affect us, it impacts
on our family friends and colleagues. Life can become more complicated
because we don’t hear accurately. This can lead to misunderstandings,
getting dates and times wrong and to some very funny conversations but
it can make life difficult.

Hearing tests are free on the NHS. Following a hearing test, hearing aids
may be recommended and today they are better than ever. Lipreading
also helps to maximise what is heard. Sadly, there are very few lipreading
classes available locally. But keep asking for them and who knows maybe
more will become available in the future. At classes, as well as learning
lipreading skills there is an opportunity to meet others, make new friends,
discuss ideas & strategies & talk in a safe environment. If classes are
unavailable www.lipreadingpractice.co.uk provides free practice videos
including 12 new videos plus exercise and useful resources and addresses.

During the week 6th -12th May, there will be events all over the country
to raise Deaf Awareness. Details from the charity websites.

Here in Saffron Walden there is an opportunity to attend an event -
