There are many national and local organisations offering advice and support to those with hearing loss. Some of them have helplines.

A good example of these is the RNID (formerly Action on Hearing Loss)

RNID works hard to help all those with hearing loss and is actively researching hearing loss issues.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People train hearing dogs to help deaf people .to select household – they train dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds they would otherwise miss – such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock and even a baby's cry. Being aware of these – thanks to a hearing dog – makes a real difference to deaf people’s lives, and can even save them.

Open Ears is a non-denominational Christian charity for people who have various degrees of impaired hearing, mainly (but not exclusively) those who communicate orally, assisted by hearing aids or cochlear implants and lip-reading.

RNID (formerly Action on Hearing Loss)

Offers information and support for people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus, and those who support someone. Provides information on many issues relating to living with hearing loss including assistive devices and speech to text apps. There is no longer an RNID shop but when you shop online at the dedicated website with Connevans, 10% of each purchase is donated to RNID.

Royal Association for Deaf People (RAD)

The Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) is a British charitable organization that was established in 1841. It provides services to deaf people in their first or preferred language, usually British Sign Language (BSL). But also uses the Deafblind manual language. The aim is to make sure the people using the services get the support they want, when they need it and that it is accessible to them.

RAD offers a wide range of services, including advocacy, community engagement, independent living services, employment and careers support, information and advice, and more. If you would like to learn more about RAD or get in touch with them, you can visit their website .

The Association of Lipspeakers (ALS)

There are many occasions when a person with a hearing loss may benefit from using a lipspeaker. Some examples of this are medical appointments and group or business meetings; in fact anything where it is very important or helpful for the person to know what is being said.

The Association of Lipspeakers (ALS) is the professional body that represents lipspeakers and aims to promote lipspeaking and its good practice and encourage the further development of lipspeaking as a communication service. The Treloar Trust

The Treloar Trust provides education, care, therapy, medical support and independence training to young people with physical disabilities from all over the UK and overseas. Our aim is to prepare these young people for adult life, giving them the confidence and skills to achieve their full potential and this is achieved through a combination of teaching, care, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy. CAMBRIDGE HEARING HELP. have been delivering services for local people with hearing loss since 1978. Originally providing them under the name of CAMTAD and then later Cambridgeshire Hearing Help CIO.
